EACH PERSON’S EXPERIENCE IS UNIQUE. RECOGNISING THAT AND CREATING APPROPRIATE SUPPORT LEADS TO EFFECTIVE CHANGE

Understanding underrepresented groups and supporting their mental health is highly important to me. No-one should face a lack of appropriate support because the support wasn’t designed with them in mind or they were unaware of the support’s existence.
My background…
My journey began as a psychology student with the intent of entering the space as a mental health professional. As I delved deeper, I became fascinated by the influence of social and cultural contexts on individuals' experiences. This curiosity led me to pursue research, where I aimed to understand how one's identity is shaped by these factors.
In my Master's, I focused on exploring the interactions between gender, sexuality, and culture, and how established concepts may not easily apply to all societies. Through this exploration, I recognised the limitations of the current conceptualisation of many social phenomena and the importance of considering cultural differences.
How can I help…
It is important to have a clear understanding of the factors that shape a situation and its background. Often, social factors are overlooked, but they are integral when it comes to looking for solutions.
With my background in social psychology, I am passionate about understanding how different aspects of a person's identity interact and how individuals' interactions with each other influence their experiences. My goal is to work with people and prioritize their stories when it comes to making meaningful change..
The future of mental health…
In today's context, where greater importance is given to individual experiences, it becomes crucial to consider the various aspects of one's identity that intertwine to shape those experiences.
Recognising that each person's journey is unique, it is essential to acknowledge that a one-size-fits-all offer, is rarely the solution. This understanding emphasises the need to approach research and interventions with sensitivity to diverse identities and the complexities they bring.
By embracing this perspective, we can ensure a more inclusive and nuanced approach to addressing various kinds of mental health concerns.
