Habitus is working in collaboration with ActionDignity to co-create an Anti-Racism Action Plan for the City of Calgary by identify inequalities and structural racism within the City of Calgary and the wider community, listening and learning from those who have been impacted by it, and developing concrete actions to address factors that contribute to racism. Ultimately, the municipality aims to become an anti-racist organisation and support efforts that will see the City become an inclusive anti-racist community.

Our approach involves a widespread community engagement initiative, reaching out to racialised persons, groups and organisations to invite them to co-host events or participate in focus groups. Over 30 events and online focus groups will be hosted, and community validation of the collected information will form an integral component of ensuring that community voices are authentically represented.

We will be utilizing a Results Based Accountability (RBA) framework that uses data as one of its key accountability mechanisms and will allow us to monitor and assess the impact of this project. A parallel evaluation will be running alongside the project to ensure internal accountability and continuous quality improvement.

This work is the next step in the City’s anti-racism strategy, with focus now on generating action that can create and sustain equity for Calgarians.

For more information see the City’s website here: https://www.calgary.ca/csps/cns/calgarys-commitment-to-anti-racism.html

The final plan is due to be published in Spring 2022.
